Ventimiglia - Historical center and Friday Market

Ventimiglia is located on the French-Italian border, the Italian side at the western end of the Italian Riviera.

The city is located 9 km from the border on the shores of the Mediterranean, at the mouth of the Roya Valley.

Ventimiglia Archaeological Museum (Museo Civico Archeologico Girolamo Rossi) is installed close to the Old Town with its fort dell'Annunziata overlooking the sea. It has rich collections of Roman archeology on Ventimiglia and its region. Recently the lower parts of the fort offer complementary themes.

The Cathedral of Ventimiglia was erected during the XIth and XIIth centuries on the ruins of a Carolingian cathedral. It has underground crypt and a baptistery of the XIth c. and the remains of the old cathedral.

The church of San Michele from the XIth c. retains three roman milestones of the Via Julia Augusta, one dating a period of Augustus and the other two a period of Caracalla.

The most known touristic activities of Ventimiglia are:

- The large Friday market on the waterfront
- The "great battle of flowers" in July
- The Monaco Marathon
